about 5 seconds after i posted an entry yesterday complaining about what a non-day i was having, my boss came into my office and told me i could go home, there and then, if i delivered a package to the law firm across the road on my way. i had my coat on before she had even finished what she was saying. yesterday afternoon we had found out that our company was being sued by one of the social service agencies that we are supposed to facilitate. as our legal department here is tiny/over-worked/incompetent (please pick one or more) we (we being not me but the people who actually mean something around here) decided to bring in the big guns ie the big posh proper law firm in the building opposite ours. you can tell the difference between a public sector firm and private sector firm just by the elevator you use to go up to the office. our lifts have cheap floral patterned walls, play dreadful music and are full of people who dress like they did a quick dash through value village with their eyes closed. their lifts have mini televisions, professionals in pinstripe suits and the elevator even speaks to you to let you know which floor you are on and which direction you are going in. the law firm office was even more impressive than the lifts. however, despite the inferiority of our office, i came away with a small consolation. they may be bigger than us and they may be better (they certainly charge more than us$1 for every page they photocopy for our files!) but my suit was much nicer than the one the girl on reception was wearing. its the small things that count!

so i'm eating taco shells, vegetable chili and salad. its a slightly messy procedure but well worth the extra effort.
my previous diary was called random thoughts (although i've just noticed that the banner no longer says "random thoughts" on it) because the things i write about are not necessarily things that are happening now but things i have been thinking about. for example, the 'italian meal' entry that i posted yesterday refered to something that happened about two years ago, not long after we had emigrated to canada. today i am not having any random or even organized thoughts. however i am happy so all is good.
