we are heading 3 and a bit hours north to stay with my parents this weekend. the idea of moving back to the uk from canada was to spend more time with family and since G was born we seem to have taken that to the extreme. i'm not complaining. my parents are fantastic with her. she's a happy baby most of the time anyway but when she's with my parents she's a total giddy kipper because they have so much time and energy for her (which considering that they are only a couple of years away from the big seven-0 is pretty amazing). usually when they have left after staying with us, i have to ramp up the fun-factor just so she doesn't get withdrawal symtoms. i think being the first and only grandchild my parents will have (and the fact that they have waited for so many years - the cg and i have been together 18 years this year) is a major reason why they can't get enough of her. we all talk about how we will make sure she doesn't get spoilt but being the centre of attention at all our family gatherings makes that tough. i guess we should be grateful that on the cgs side, G is only one of 10 grandkids. the chances of getting spoilt there are pretty slim! anyway, i'm looking forward to the trip "home". having so many eager offers to bath, feed & play with G means i get a lovely break.
