i guess you could say that its been quite an eventful day today. i started the day by calling my mum and having the usual conversation. this involves her telling me in great detail about what is going on with lots of people in england that i don't know and will never meet and me making appropriate responses when there is a gap in her thoughts, which to be honest isn't very often. after that we headed into town on foot and almost died. a lorry nearly hit a van and to avoid this the van swerved in the direction of where we were standing waiting for the lights to change so we could cross the road. the CG instinctively moved backwards. i just stood there, in complete shock, watching the van hurtling towards me until the cg grabbed me. luckily no one was hurt but i was left feeling the way i felt when i watched someone kill themselves a few years ago; like i was there but i wasn't really there. after that we shared a chicken wrap on the library steps and then went for a wander into the shops along robson. a couple of hours later we drove to mountain co-op and i got some short-shorts for hiking in. i've abstained from wearing shorts for about 10 years but i really need some for cycling and hiking so i took the plunge. the first pair i tried on didn't look so hot...at least i gather they didn't from the cg's comment ("a lot of people just don't look good in shorts") but the shorter shorts didn't look all that bad. of course they were 3 times the price of the first ones but i was willing to pay the money. after that we rushed over to 5th avenue to see the control room. its well worth watching (i teased the cg about him not wanting to see it yesterday when he told me he really enjoyed it) but better than that, the people who go to see movies like the control room are so much better than the people who fill the cinema for films like spiderman 2. they don't arrive late, they don't talk through the movie and they don't eat like cows chewing cud through the entire 90 minute show. plus they laugh when its actually funny..something most people seem to have a hard time doing. after the movie the car broke down in the parking lot behind videomatica. we sat in the blazing heat for 40 minutes waiting for the BCAA guy to come sort it out...we also rented a movie to watch later (easy riders, raging bulls...we have the book but figured it would be interesting to also see the movie). we were going to head out for dinner but i think we've been out and about enough for one day so now we are just waiting for the pizza to arrive. well i think that about covers our day today...except that some fireman guy nearly fell out of a fire truck trying to look down my top.

the apartment is so hot right now that the back of my knees feel sticky and its gross.
the cg and i were going to go to the movies tonight to see the control room...except that we weren't. i wanted to go, he wanted to see something that required fewer brain cells (often its the other way around). there were a couple of phone calls and a couple of strops which ended first with him putting the phone down on me and then later with me putting the phone down on him (although i did ask if it was ok for me to do it before i did it..we've known each other way too long to have proper drama queen fights). anyway we ended up going for dinner instead and i'm kind of glad things turned out that way because i think i needed to chat more than i need to watch a big screen.
9:49 p.m. - July 23, 2004
i've become obsessed with reading in the sunshine in my lunch hour which is great because a) it means i get to use my brain at least once during the day and b) it means i'm not at the mall spending my money before it's earned. today my sunshine reading session might not have been such a good idea though. on returning to my desk i've found that my light tan has now turned to something more like pig pink and pig pink just isn't all that sexy.
ps renita are you home yet or what??
12:54 p.m. - July 23, 2004
its not even 9am and it's already too god damn hot. usually i'm all for a bit of sunshine but at the moment i'm finding the heat unbearable. it doesn't help that two sides of our apartment is floor to ceiling windows (great for the view but a killer for trapping sun). rain dance anyone.
after aborting our plan to go for a bike ride last night (we got as far as the bike locker and then found that the CG's back tire had yet another puncture) the CG suggested that we do a hike in the mountains tomorrow. "great" i said "but what are we going to do this weekend for fun". "that is the fun" he told me.
