last year on halloween one of the guys from the upstairs office, that i didnt really know and id never really talked to, came out of his way, to the cubicle i used to live in and said i heard you spent the afternoon carving pumpkins yesterday. this was so bizarre as i had not been carving pumpkins and i couldnt imagine who had been spreading the gossip that i had!

its 2.26pm. how the hell can it be only 2.26pm when i feel like ive been here for about a million hours already. lizzie and i were supposed to be going ker-lubbing tonight but its halloween and the club is having a special event. the funny thing is that the place is usually full of goths anyway so they really dont need to bother with a costume party. i suggested to the coolest guy that since he is going to be blessed with my presence for the evening we should rent some old skool horror movies. im a big scaredy cat* so i will probably have nightmares all night. but thats ok, i have the day off work tomorrow.
* i am such a big scaredy cat that earlier on i nearly fell over trying to get away from the plastic spider that i totally forgot i put on the plant outside my office yesterday!

i have a fear of machines. not complicated things like computers, im fine and dandy with them, but with vending machines and microwaves and car stereos and video recorders and..well you get the idea. i just dont trust them. i dont trust them not to steal my money and i know damn well they have no intention of making sure i dont miss my favourite tv shows. anyway, we got a new microwave at work the other day (clair blew the last one up with a burrito) so about 20 minutes ago i went to the kitchen to heat up my chicken and sweetcorn soup (which, being that i lack greatly in the culinary department, i consider homemade in that i had to add the sweetcorn all by myself to a tin of plain chicken soup) and of course the microwave refused to work for me. ok i'll admit that i didnt read the instructions firsti dont do instruction manualsand i did press all the buttons at least twice each and some simultaneously but still how hard can it be to heat up a small bowl of soup. to add to the frustration, hunky michael (not my boss mike but another michael from the upstairs office) came into the kitchen. i ended up groveling for his help because at this point the machine was flashing out the word safe on its digital screen which didnt seem very appropriate given the fact that i was about to throw it out of the nearest office window (ok the windows here dont actually open but the microwave doesnt know that). in the end, lu (who every loves to pieces because she is always so nice and helpful!!!) had to come and help out. i eventually got my soup, probably only a few minutes before i was about to starve to death, and it turned out to be very tasty.
the two new big boss/ceo type guys just walked passed my office. one of them popped his head in and asked whats with the wall display of cds. i like music, i offered. do you play it here at work?, he asked. sometimes i dobutervery quietlyerit gets lonely down here sometimes. he humpffed and walked off. hands up all those that think ill be first on the redundancy list. hands up all those who think i should have got an all day snowboading pass instead of just evenings and weekends!

at 7.30am it seemed like a great idea to bring bill hicks to work with me. at 9am, after a cup of caffeine and more fucking fucks than is probably allowed in an office environment, i realized that maybe this was maybe not one of my most clever moves. but, despite the fact that i am probably going to get carpal tunnel syndrome from turning the volume knob up and down every five seconds to try and hide the profanities, i am still listening because i love bill and it would be rude to cut him off mid rant (in e-minor).
